Deep Research Connector for ChatGPT: 4 Security Questions for HubSpot
20 years ago, In an enterprise project, the vendor promised “enterprise-grade security.” A few months later, we discovered customer data was being synced to an unsecured FTP server.
Many such episodes, made me question marketing claims vs documented reality for all enterprise product announcements.
HubSpot just launched their Deep Research Connector for ChatGPT with a bold promise: “Customer data is not used for AI training”. The new connector promises “doctorate-level research” on your customer data.
Despite deeply rooted into Salesforce ecosystem, I do appreciate HubSpot platform, and actually helped our customers succeed with it. I am excited to see this innovation coming from HubSpot, but as an enterprise architect, it's my job role to question hype vs reality.
Thus, this post is not criticism, but I will act as a journalist and without any prejudice or judgement, let this post be an open forum to discuss and ask AI and security questions about the HubSpot ChatGPT Connector.
The Stakes Are Higher Than You Think
Over 250,000 businesses use HubSpot. More than 75% already use ChatGPT.
This isn’t just another integration, it’s the largest CRM-to-AI data pipeline ever deployed.
Yet, industry analysts note: “excitement outweighs concern” about potential security implications.
After 200+ CRM implementations, here are the 5 critical questions every enterprise should ask HubSpot before enabling this connector.
Question 1: Why Do Security Requirements Vary by Geography?
Here’s what I discovered:
Europe/UK/Switzerland: ChatGPT Team minimum.
United States & Others: ChatGPT Plus acceptable.
The question: If this integration is truly “enterprise-grade,” why do European customers need higher-tier ChatGPT plans while US customers can use basic Plus subscriptions?
What this possibly suggests: Seems, European data requires additional protections US data doesn’t.
For enterprise teams: This geographic disparity should factor into your risk assessment, especially for multinational organizations.
Question 2: Which Training Data Policy Actually Governs Your Data?
Here’s where documentation gets confusing:
HubSpot’s Promise:
“HubSpot customer data is not used for AI training in ChatGPT”
OpenAI’s Reality:
If you are on a ChatGPT Plus, ChatGPT Pro or ChatGPT Free plan on a personal workspace, data sharing is enabled for you by default, however, you can opt out of using the data for training.
For enterprise teams: Are you sure about mandating a turn off for all your end users, and how will IT Admins monitor/audit this hyper sensitive ChatGPT TOGGLE.
Question 3: Does ChatGPT connector require mandatory data classification completion before enablement?
HubSpot classify zero fields as sensitive by default, leaving all enterprise data exposed to AI tools

Seems, they don’t provide (yet):
❌ Built-in content filtering of ChatGPT responses
❌ Automated bias detection in AI outputs
❌ Toxicity screening before responses reach users
Why this matters: Research shows 55% of experts say accidental data leaking by AI models is their primary concern.
The reality: Responsibility for safe, unbiased AI responses falls entirely on human oversight, not automated safeguards.
For enterprise teams: You’re responsible for training users to identify and handle inappropriate AI outputs.

After analysing HubSpot’s approach against current enterprise security standards, here’s my assessment:
This isn’t about whether HubSpot’s connector is “secure” or “insecure” — it’s about whether their security model aligns with your specific enterprise requirements.
The questions I’ve outlined aren’t criticisms — they’re due diligence items that every enterprise should address before connecting CRM data to third-party AI systems.
My recommendation: Demand detailed technical answers to these questions before enabling the connector. If HubSpot can provide satisfactory documentation for your specific use case, the integration offers genuine business value.
If they can’t — or if the answers don’t meet your enterprise standards — wait for more comprehensive security documentation or consider alternatives.
